Women-led Decarbonisation Initiatives

WDI

Eastern Indonesia has a high percentage of poor and rural communities that use firewood for cooking, leading to environmental pollution and a lower life expectancy. Implementation of sustainable biogas can provide clean energy and improve air quality.  The project supports a large-scale and self-sustained market development for affordable small biogas applications (biodigesters) in the rural regions of Eastern Indonesia. By 2025, it aims to establish 80 biogas plants, implement a marketing and monitoring system for farmers in three villages, and devise a financing and policy plan. The project’s main target groups are farming communities, cooperatives, and organisations in rural Indonesia.  Additionally, the project seeks to support biogas plant initiatives nationwide by 2030, utilising technical improvements, certification, training, dialogues, and recommendations to national planning authorities to raise awareness and enhance their implementation.
