Integrating gender and social inclusion perspectives into project activities goes beyond increasing women’s participation, but ensuring the marginal groups voices, needs, and priorities are actively shaping decision-making processes as well.
To strengthen this approach, SOLUSI held a Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) and gender workshop on 6–7 March 2025, bringing together around 37 participants from 11 organizations. This workshop was part of Yayasan KEHATI’s training for project field partners, equipping them with tools to enhance gender and social inclusion in project implementation.
A key focus was developing an FPIC mechanism tailored to each targeted village. This ensures a more inclusive consultation process where women and marginalized groups play an active role in shaping outcomes.
Beyond FPIC, partners also took steps to build an initial gender action plan, integrating gender-responsive to transformative strategies into their activities. Discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond numbers, emphasizing women’s leadership and decision-making roles in natural resource management (NRM) considering an impact-driven approach. The participants also discussed field experiences where women can play a more meaningful participation in a project.
With these foundations in place, SOLUSI is advancing a stronger gender mainstreaming framework. The next steps will focus on finalizing a project gender action plan and monitoring FPIC implementation to build a more inclusive project.
