The RYCAM school contest was held across 16 regions in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, and Papua in collaboration with the Indonesia Climate Change Alliance (ICCA), targeted high school and vocational students to raise their awareness on climate change issues esp. in the AFOLU sector, foster creativity in mitigation and adaptation, develop environmental skills, and encourage schools to become climate action leaders. The contest was embedded in a school module about climate change, introducing students to the topic and climate change consequences through an interactive approach. Engaging activities like games, videos, group work, and quizzes were used to ensure effective learning and participation of the students.
In total, 66 idea proposals were submitted, and 32 winners with their best idea proposals have been selected by the end of the contest in January 2025. The winners received support and have started implementing their ideas on sustainable waste management, irrigation, agroforestry, sustainable fertilizers, organic agriculture, and much more since February 2025. Final assessment in July 2025 will be done to choose the 16 best groups in the project implementation.
