Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) requested a consolidated policy brief from the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA) to inform the ongoing revision of the 2025-2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan (RPJMN). The brief, prepared by the OECD, was presented during a high-level dialogue on 17 September 2024, involving Bappenas, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and SIPA’s implementing partners, including the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the International Transport Forum (ITF), OECD, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia.
SIPA delivered over 50 recommendations, including mainstreaming resilience and nature-based solutions into infrastructure planning and adopting responsible business conduct principles. Bappenas has already started strengthening the RPJMN draft in line with some of SIPA’s recommendations and aims to finalize the document in October.
The enhanced RPJMN will shape Indonesia’s development for the next five years, a critical period as the country plans to peak its greenhouse gas emissions and transition to net-zero.
