Breaking Barriers: Women’s Leadership in Indonesia’s Environmental Sector

Despite remarkable progress in education and workforce participation, women in Indonesia still face significant challenges when it comes to leadership. Barriers such as limited access to opportunities, gender biases, and the domestic burdens women shoulder continue to hold back their full potential. To create a more inclusive future, policy support at all levels is essential, especially in climate action, biodiversity, and environmental protection.

These challenges, gaps, and opportunities were at the heart of the recent EcoGender Talks workshop, held at Hotel Pullman Thamrin in Central Jakarta on September 18, 2024. The workshop, part of the IKI Thematic on Gender, on “Inclusive Gender Environmental Leadership: Women Driving Sustainable Impacts,” and gathered experts to discuss how women’s leadership can shape a sustainable future.
