Efforts to restore peat ecosystems—such as rewetting, revegetation, and revitalizing livelihoods—have been ongoing. However, the key to long-term success lies in enhancing stakeholder capacity across sectors. From training local communities to integrating peat conservation into business practices, collaboration among all parties is crucial to ensuring the sustainability of Indonesia’s peatlands. Local communities benefit from sustainable agricultural practices like paludiculture and agroforestry, which help preserve groundwater levels. To conclude Peat-IMPACTS activities in December 2024, ICRAF is organizing a Provincial Workshop and Talk Show titled ‘Integrated Solutions and Policy Responses for Peatland Management in South Sumatra, highlighting achievements from five years of action research.
