The Peat-IMPACTS project’s ‘Knowledge Management’ initiative has incorporated local content into the curriculum of 536 schools in Kubu Raya, educating students on protecting peatlands and mangroves. Maike Lorenz from the German Embassy visited SMPN 12 Kubu Raya on August 23, 2024, to discuss the program’s benefits as a pilot school with teachers and students. ‘Changing old habits isn’t easy, but I’m impressed by the school’s efforts to integrate peatland education into the curriculum through creative methods. I hope to build on this experience in other German Government programs,’ said Maike. The curriculum teaches students to farm on peatlands, growing pineapples that are processed into jam and sold.
