Women-led Decarbonisation Initiatives

This project work on three levels. It prepares local womens‘ organisations in three Indonesian cities/regions to facilitate the process in respective communities. The women’s organizations are working in particular with grassroots women and support them in being recognized experts on decarbonisation and environmental stewardship, leading women’s initiatives towards a low-carbon future. As a third pillar, the project does capacity building with local governments, so that they gain knowledge about gender-just climate policy and about how to include local women in the decision making process. The bottom-up approach empowers the capacity of the communities, including the women in the decision-making, is inclusive and democratic and therefore more sustainable.

Early Retirement of Coal-Fired Power Plants: Just Transition & Asset Repurposing (C2G)

The Indonesian Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) provides momentum to co-create pathways for shutting down Coal Fired Power Plants (CFPPs), including young assets. Accelerated phase-out of CFPPs and innovative repurposing approaches implemented in a just manner contributes to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to enabling a future-proof renewable energy system. The project contributes to repurposing coal assets with innovative ideas, while addressing environmental concerns and promoting renewable energy solutions. By establishing pilots to showcase the economic feasibility and just transition benefits, the project can serve as a blueprint for other countries to multiply the positive change beyond the project. Repurposing CFPP can also create a positive economic scale-up effect.

Multiple benefits through franchise distribution of biogas digesters

Eastern Indonesia’s poor rural communities rely on firewood, causing pollution and poor health. This project advances a self-sustained biogas market by 2025. Activities include installing 80 units, setting up marketing systems, and devising financing plans, capacity building, and policy influence for nationwide expansion by 2030.
