Policy Targets :
Enrich the Millennial Farmer Programme with net zero farming strategies. JAMTANI and MPM advocate since many years for agroeocology and climate-resilient farming. Through this project we will specifically adress the Millenial Farmer Programme and collaborate with stakeholders to lobby for a climate-friendly component. For example, the fertilizer subsidy programme is regularly under review. Synthetic fertilizers subsidies and substitution of organic fertilizers are under debate, as many of Indonesian agricultural soils are sick soils with organic matter of less than 1%. The project advocates for a paradigm shift in the fertilizer subsidy programme towards agroecological and organic fertilizers. This will directly contribute to the Enhanced NDC 2022 agricultural sector targets of organic fertilizer promotion and the LTS-LCCR fields of intervention of reduction in using synthetic fertilizer.
‘- Cool Farming Challenge Toraja/Sulawesi and Pangandaran/Java: 24 young farmer groups will be selected through a challenge. The winners will be contracted to implement pilot projects with mitigation potentials and in cooperation with local universities and student interns the GHG inventories of these farms are regularly monitored. They together with selected farmers from the region will take part in a Climate Field School Programme with special emphasis on agroecopreneurship.
